Softec Sponsored Event - Startup Weekend SLO

I attended the Friday night kickoff session (see videos), at one of the Engineering buildings at Cal Poly. Well over 100 in attendance, most were participants (mostly Cal Poly students), relatively few spectators. First a fun icebreaker: Each row in the room was charged with coming up with a business around random assortments of two words! (One, a mobile game, even turned into an actual pitched idea, and then into one of the teams chosen to proceed!) Then some 60+ ideas were pitched. Everybody then voted for their three favorites, and the top vote-getters (approximately 15) went on to start assembling their teams. Work probably went on all night!..

I also stopped in Saturday. The teams were spread among two rooms, packed to the walls with laptops, notebooks, tablets, whiteboards, flippads--and energy!

The way we selected individuals to speak at Startup Weekend SLO was not actually through an application process, but by asking people within our team's network to volunteer their time. If you are interested in having RE Technology participate in next year's Startup Weekend SLO, I can make a note to contact you about that.

This looks like a great event. Not sure how we missed the application process to register our company, RE Technology to participate and speak. Kinda disappointing.
