More than ever, businesses today rely on technology to manage critical data, support their operations, and serve their customers.  In our current fast-paced business world the technology industry is at the forefront of this innovation.  Because of this, technology businesses open themselves up to new liability exposures, many of which have never been addressed and are not covered by most insurance policies.

Morris & Garritano has been one of the leading insurance agencies on the central coast  for the past 125 years. They along with Chartis Insurance Company have invited a leading expert on technology risks to present to Softec’s membership:

Matthew D. Brown is a partner in the Cooley LLP Litigation Department and works in the firm’s San Francisco office.  He has a broad-based litigation practice with significant experience in Internet-related issues and legal issues arising from the development of new technologies and services. Mr. Brown is currently defending Facebook and Yelp! in class action lawsuits.  He recently represented a social networking company in a copyright infringement case brought by music recording and publishing companies on the basis of user-uploaded videos. He also represented a group of emerging technology companies that submitted a “friend of the court” brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in the MGM v. Grokster case.  In addition to his litigation work, Mr. Brown also provides counseling to technology companies that are seeking to assess and to manage potential liability risks.
