If you had five minutes on stage what would you say?
What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Around the world geeks have been putting together Ignite nights to show their answers.
Ignite was started in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest and Bre Pettis. Since then 100s of 5 minute talks have been given across the world.
Ignite captures the best of geek culture in a series of five-minute speed presentations on topics ranging from The Best Way to Buy a Car to Hacking Chocolate. Last year we heard about living off the grid, harvesting rain water, and the wonders of cochlear implants. Imagine that you're on stage in front of a large audience of people, doing a five-minute presentation using a slide deck that auto-forwards every 15 seconds, whether you're ready or not. What would you do? What would you say?
Ignite provides an opportunity for varied presenters, storytellers, and passionate enthusiasts to entice the audience with 5 minutes of fun, upbeat, and informative presentations to pique interest, entertain, and educate the audience on a wide array of topics. Join us!
If you would like to be one of the people on stage, let us know! We will be accepting submissions by email only through May 15th. See submission details below.
How to be a speaker:
Email igniteslo@gmail.com with the following information:
- Name, email, and best phone number (the one you will answer)
- One line topic (this will be published for the agenda)
- One paragraph describing your topic (so we get an idea of what your topic is)
- Commitment to send 20 slides in PowerPoint or PDF format (must be PC compatible) no later than May 15th.
Rules:
- Topic must be "clean" - nothing crass, crude, or rude
- Content must be "clean" - nothing crass, crude, or rude
- Your slides will automatically advance every 15 seconds and your time to speak will end at exactly 5 minutes.
- Your slides will be “flattened” and assembled before the event into a single slide deck. This means there will be no “in-slide” transitions (moving pictures, animations, etc). This also means we can’t accept changes after June 18th.
- There will not be a Q&A session, but there will be opportunities to network after the final speaker.
- The planning committee will select the speakers and presentation order
- You will be recorded - both voice and video.
- Final slides must be received by June 18th in order to be included in the speaker line up.
