This is just a social engineering issue but I've had a number of non-technical folks hang up during the screening phase. I believe they think it's an answering machine (even though it's just a prompt for their name) and they hang up.
The feature I'd like the most is the ability of setting rules based on the time of day. I'd like to have my number call my office during work hours and switch to my cell on off hours.
Thank you! I got it all set up Monday night, and have used it. I have already send a text to a person named Staci, and I called her Ralph (because that's how her name transcribed). I guess I am on a leaning curve!

Yes, I used a gmail account. (I also used another account as well to resubmit the request when I never heard.)
Steve, thank you. Roberto got me covered. Much appreciated.
Roberto, in response to "The feature I'd like the most is the ability of setting rules based on the time of day. I'd like to have my number call my office during work hours and switch to my cell on off hours." Go to "Settings | Phones" and click "Edit" for the phone in question.Click on "Advanced Settings" and scroll down to "Ring Schedule." Click on "Use Custom Schedule" for Weekdays, and then for Weekends. You can set hours NOT to ring each phone.
I think you can accomplish what you are hoping to accomplish using these settings.
Thanks Tom. I hadn't dug too deep because I had believed it couldn't do it. I guess I shouldn't have written them off so fast.
Steve Evans: Thomas, I'm out of invites. I'm sure others on the site have invites though.
Thomas,
I'm out of invites. I'm sure others on the site have invites though.
I have a couple of invites, in case anyone at Softec wants one....
I keep hoping that I will get an invite so that I can get my wife onto Google Voice as well, but not yet. If you have a spare, I would love if if you would send one to her at julie.lebens@gmail.com
Okay -- I just invited Julie to Google Voice! Please ask her to respond to the invite email. See you at the next Board Meeting!
It looks like as of today, you no longer need an invite to obtain a Google Voice number! Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE http://www.google.com/googlevoice/about.html#<http://www.google.com/googlevoice/about.html
Looks like Google has launched some integration between Google Voice and GMail . . .

Google Voice Update. Google is currently rolling out the ability to call people using the Google Chat widget that's in all Gmail accounts.

Even more reason to have a Google Voice account now. :)
It is funny how Google had the position that email was going to be replaced by Wave and now they are instead building everything around email. I think having the option to make a call from gmail is a great idea for people that work with headsets on all day. It appears that Google and many others have changed their thoughts on how quickly people will move away from a technology (email) they use regularly even if it clearly isn't the most effective way to communicate.
Cool Stuff!

I wonder if they are working on a way to send a voice text message too? Wait . . . is that just voice mail?
The following language in Google's official announcement on Gmail/Google Voice integration is interesting:
"Calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year, and calls to other countries will be billed at our very low rates."
Does this mean we should prepare to be charged for all of our Google Voice calls starting in January?
According to CNET:
"In a blog post announcing the feature, Google would only commit to offering free calls in the U.S. and Canada through the end of the year. Google's Craig Walker, product manager for real-time communications, said the company had no plans to raise rates beyond 2010, but it is still waiting to see if it will make enough margin on international calls to justify the free cost of U.S. and Canada calls. It will cost a little more to call mobile phones in countries outside the U.S., depending on the country."

Stay tuned, I guess. Anyone heard anything else?
