Join us for a moderated panel discussion on the future of development where everyone in the group is on the panel.  Yep, that means you and anyone else that attends the meeting is included in the conversation.  Come help us kick off our 1st annual end of the year group discussion focused on where we think the future of software will take us all.  No software related topic is off the table.  We welcome all of you .Net Fanatics, Ruby Fan Boys, PHP-ers, Java Hackers, Python Lovers, and JavaScript Rulers to share your thoughts on the future of programming and what skills you all think we all might need in the next year(s).  We are looking forward to a spirited debate, so bring your religious one-sided outlooks and let’s dive in.

We will cover:

  • The Future of Server Side Programming Languages (.Net, Ruby, Java, PHP)
    • Are these languages history?
    • Will JavaScript on the Server (Node.js) and the client take over?
  • The Future of JavaScript and Dart
    • Is JavaScript the build once run everywhere dream we have all been waiting for?
    • Does Google have a hit on its hand with Dart?
  • SQL vs No SQL Databases
    • Are No SQL data stores the future of all apps?
    • Will SQL Databases ever scale as easily as No SQL
  • Windows 8 and Windows 8 Server are coming soon
    • What impact will they have on future development strategies?
    • Is WinRT a game changer?
    • Does WinRT mean the death of .NET?
    • Will native JavaScript on the server change your server side development strategy?
  • Windows 8 is being added to the list of Operating Systems that rely on the APP Store Model
    • How might this wave of change affect the Internet as we know it?
    • Will the APP Store kill the internet?
    • Do APP Stores matter?
    • Are you excited about the Windows 8 App Store opportunities?

Our December meeting will be moderated by Justin Couto of Couto Solutions.
