Curious about what Windows 8 means to the .Net developer?  This high-level introduction to Windows 8's new WinRT core, Metro applications, and the new Windows Store is the place to find out.

WinRT is the heart of Microsoft's new application development model.  WinRT exposes native OS functionality to applications written in a variety of languages (XMAL/C#, HTML/Java Script, and C++).

Metro applications are the new type of applications and deployment model for the Windows platform.  They are optimized for both the desktop and the new Windows 8 tablets.

Windows Store will allow you to sell your new Metro applications in to more than 200 markets, over 70 currencies, and localize your apps to more than 100 languages.

This overview talk will attempt to answer some of your questions:

  • What about my existing apps?
  • Is .Net dead?
  • What happened to Silverlight?
  • Why should I bother with all this new stuff?
