Jeff Buckingham is President of Blue Rooster Telecom, a CLEC formed in 2009 to provide telephone and Internet service to business customers in California.
Jeff was President and co-founder of the reincarnation of Call America, a CLEC formed in 2001 to provide business telephone and Internet services to business customers on the central coast. Call America grew to 25 employees serving more than two thousand customers and had annual revenues in excess of seven million dollars when Jeff left in May of 2009.
Jeff Buckingham was with New Edge Networks from January to November of 2000 as Vice President and was responsible for all of the company’s operations on the central coast between Santa Barbara and Monterey. New Edge Networks is venture funded and was founded in 1999 to bring wholesale digital subscriber service (DSL) to small and mid-sized communities nationwide.
Jeff started with the original Call America in 1983 and eventually became President. Call America was one of the first competitive long distance carriers on California's central coast and was one of the first companies to be certified to provide telecommunications services by the California Public Utilities Commission after deregulation in January 1984. Jeff was the primary salesperson in the beginning of Call America and was active in the sale of many customers. Jeff later guided Call America during the introduction of voice mail service and operator services during the late 1980’s and also positioned Call America as the first commercial Internet service provider (ISP) on the central coast in the mid 1990’s. The company grew to become the source of full service telecommunications solutions to many central coast businesses as well as a wholesale provider of Internet and operator services to may other telecommunications companies in California. In January 1997, with revenues in excess of $20,000,000.00 per year, Call America merged with GST after which, Jeff was responsible for the operations of GST Call America, serving more than 10,000 California consumers and managing 200 employees.
Jeff has been elected to the national Competitive Telecommunications Association (CompTel) board of directors and served for two years. As a member, Jeff has helped to shape the national policy before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Congress, and other national and state regulatory and legislative agencies.
Jeff is also a board member and past President of CALTEL (The California Association of Competitive Telecommunications Providers) CALTEL represents the concerns of telecommunications companies at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and the California Legislature.
Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981 from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
In addition to the Softec board Jeff is an active member of the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo de Telosa and is a past board member and former Board Chair of the SLO Chamber of Commerce. Jeff also serves on the Cuesta College Foundation Board, the SLO County Farm Bureau Board, and the Farm Supply Company Board. Jeff is married with two children, 4 dogs, 18 cats, 3 horses, 2 bulls, 44 cows and lives in San Luis Obispo County, CA.
